The Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase

For two weeks as the beginning of the year, Tucson sprawls some of its prettiest sparkles out for all to see with the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase. What’s unique about this event is that it’s possible to see gems from around the world in gorgeous settings that recall times gone by. Ancient and modern sit side by side throughout the showcase. Take home some of the beautiful pieces – with over a hundred vendors, you’re sure to find something.

La Fiesta de los Vaqueros - Tucson Rodeo & Parade

Don’t miss out on this week-long event in February to enjoy one of the top 25 pro rodeos in the United States. This event has been staged at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds since 1925. Champion cowboys and cowgirls test their skills in six performances and RAM Mutton Bustin’ and Justin Junior Rodeo Exhibition. The 2.5-mile route for the parade includes horse-drawn coaches, fully outfitted riders, folk dancers, and marching bands.

You can even tour the vintage wagons, carriages, and buggies at the Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum — open from January to early April. Be sure to check out photos by Louise Serpa, a legendary Cowboy Hall-of-Fame photographer, who captured over a half-century of rodeo history.

The Cologuard Classic

Love golf? You’re not the only one. Attend the Cologuard Classic at the Omni Tucson National Resort in February. Men’s pro golf takes over the Catalina Course, and the PGA TOUR tournament lays out a competition that allows fans to see the action up-close. From Wednesday – Thursday, amateur and superstar golf players walk the course for the Jose Cuervo Pro-Am. Every year is sure to include a roster of golf pros.

Whether you love to watch or play, all are welcome to attend the next Cologuard Classic, a PGA TOUR Champions event that features 54 holes of stroke play with a no-cut Friday.

La Frontera Tucson International Mariachi Conference

Celebrating the iconic sounds in Latin music, the Tucson International Mariachi Conference is an event that focuses on promoting awareness and fostering traditional values of mariachi music and folk dance. Mariachi music is best heard live, and this conference includes a music festival with three public concerts to complete a week of student workshops.

Dive into the exuberant symbol of Mexican culture by attending the traditional mariachi Mass on Saturday morning. The choreographed performances feature brilliant colors, traditionally embroidered outfits, and so much more. You’ll quickly discover why UNESCO recognized mariachi music as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Agave Heritage Festival: Food, History, and Spirits

The premier destination for agave, Tucson celebrates this heritage every year. This festival reveals the cultural, commercial, and culinary significance of the agave plant. From seminars to world-class culinary events, the festival strives to offer all sorts of resources to attendees about the agave plant’s versatility. Part of what makes this festival so memorable is its international panel of expert speakers and presenters.

While many events occur in this desert city throughout the year, these are a few of the best annual events in Tucson. This diverse community promotes a creative collection of activities, eateries, and more. No matter what, you’ll find something fun to look forward to every month.
